Wallingford Rotary held its annual fishing derby and clinic on Saturday June 10th. A bit shout out to our community without whom the event would not be possible and to our Fishing Derby Chairperson, Don Glendenning who once again put together an amazing community event. Some of the day’s highlights:
A few highlights of the day:
We had 50 registered student fisherman ranging in age from 18 months to 15 years old, all where attended by a guardian.
There were approximately 40 plus fish caught between 9 and 12 inches, a few may have missed the measuring station.
We had ten Rotarians attend this morning and assist from set up to take down. We had assistant for other members with prizes and supplies, once again support from all.
Our grill master, Jay White cooked 120 hotdogs, the official hot dog count between the 50 students and the 10 Rotarians is still be calculated.
Here are some pictures of a wonderful community event, uniting young and the young at heart members of our community, first time fishers and experienced mentors and resulted in a whole lot of fun for all involved.
We at the Wallingford Rotary are pleased to let you know that we have compiled a Paul Harris Walking Tour of downtown Wallingford Vermont. If you are in town and want a bit of history on Paul Harris, please follow along on the walking tour and learn about Paul Harris’ time growing up in Wallingford Vermont. If you take the tour, please take some pictures and share in the comments. We’d love to hear your thoughts and how you enjoyed touring our little town!
This morning the Wallingford Rotary Club inducted its newest Rotarian, Todd Gregory, M.D. to our club. The ceremony conducted by President Dave Ballou with assistance from Randall Barclay DGE was a first for the little red schoolhouse club, done in a hybrid fashion with some participants in person at the Schoolhouse and some members participating via video conferencing. Hopefully this will be a new way of our little rotary club stretching its wings and making the world a little smaller and bringing people from all over the world to our club.
Congratulations to Dr. Gregory who is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department of Rutland Regional Medical Center! We are very happy to have you join our ranks as a Wallingford Rotarian!
Thanks to John Bob Siemienowicz, Incoming District Governor for his fantastic virtual photography skills capturing the moment!
Dr. Gregory joins our other new members this year, Drew Elwood and Paul Gillett and we are grateful for them all!
If you are interesting in joining our hybrid meetings, either in person or via video conferencing please send an email to randell.barclay@gmail.com to be included in our meeting invite! All are welcome!
Unfortunately, for safety reasons, we are unable to hold our annual Bicycle Helmet and Safety Day which we love as much as you do. But, we want our community children to be safe while bike riding this summer, so on Saturday, June 12th from 9-12 please stop by the Rotary Building on Main Street in Wallingford to pick up a free bicycle helmet for your little one(s). We ask that everyone please wear masks for the safety of all! Thank you and see you Saturday!
The Wallingford Rotary Annual Fishing Derby and Clinic is back! The Derby will be held this Saturday, June 5th from 9-12 at the West Hill Road Pond. Admission is free to all. There will be free hot dogs and prizes for our little fishing folk! This is a socially distanced event around the pond but we ask that everyone wears masks at registration! We are excited to be able to sponsor this much anticipated community event and look forward to seeing you there!
Please consider donating to Wallingford Rotary to show your support for our local, regional and global efforts since we are not able to conduct in person fundraising events during the COVID19 pandemic. Our usual methods of fundraising, our annual Lobsterfest and Silent Auction, Coin Drop and our quarterly dinners at the Little Red Schoolhouse have all been put on hold during this pandemic, as we put the health and safety our community first and foremost in our hearts and minds. Therefore, we are embarking on a donation campaign to compensate for the lack of those funds so we can continue to serve our local, regional, state and global community and keep our Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” at the core of what we do here at the Little Red Schoolhouse.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support.

This morning, the leadership of the Wallingford Memorial Rotary Club changed during its annual changing of the gavel induction ceremony.
The Wallingford Rotary extends its utmost congratulations and thanks to outgoing President Randell Barclay. During his year presidency, Randell has more than exemplified the motto of Rotary – “service above self” with his work within Rotary. Randell will next be preparing for his role as upcoming District Governor Elect.
We welcomed our new President, Dave Ballou. Dave is no stranger to Rotary, this will be his fourth term as president of our club. Along with Dave, Rotarian Sue Thayer was inducted as President Elect.
Wallingford Rotary extends its best wishes to Dave and Sue as they embark on this new Rotary year, we are sure that they will have wonderful things in store for our little club! Here are some pictures of Dave and Randell who were socially distancing and masked from the Little Red Schoolhouse for the induction ceremony which was held virtually for the rest of the club.
