Annual Bike Safety Day

Rotary Bike Safety

Saturday, despite the threat of rain, the sunshine was plentiful as the Wallingford Rotary’s annual Bike Safety Day got underway. The first few children arrived beginning a steady flow of families who came, with and without bicycles, to enjoy this annual community event. Each year, the Wallingford Rotary, with the support of the local community and businesses sponsors the bike safety event, featuring complimentary bicycle helmets for children fitted to each child by volunteers. Those volunteers, including student volunteers from Mill River Union High School spent their morning fitting helmets, cooking up delicious hot dogs with homemade toppings, doling out free apples, Cabot cheddar cheese, manning the obstacle course, bike inspection and repair stations and painting faces and helmets for the young visitors.

A big thank you to the families who participated, the Mill River Key Club students who came out to help despite heading out to prom later that day, community volunteers, and these fine community donors and sponsors. We are proud to serve our community. Thank you all!
